Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Discord account
- A Discord server where you have Manage Emojis permission
- A Discord bot token (create one here)
Step 1: Sign in with Discord
Visit usekao.com and click Get Started. You'll be redirected to Discord to authorize the application.
Kao only requests the permissions needed to see your servers and manage emotes. We never post on your behalf or access your messages.
Step 2: Create Your Discord Bot
If you don't already have a bot, follow these steps:
- Go to the Discord Developer Portal
- Click New Application and give it a name
- Go to the Bot section in the sidebar
- Click Reset Token to generate a new bot token
- Copy the token - you'll need it in the next step
Never share your bot token with anyone. It gives full control over your bot.
Step 3: Connect Your Bot to Kao
- In the Kao dashboard, go through the onboarding flow
- Paste your bot token when prompted
- Kao will validate the token and connect to your bot
Step 4: Invite Your Bot to a Server
After connecting your bot, you'll need to invite it to your Discord server:
- Kao will generate an invite link for your bot
- Click the link and select which server to add it to
- Make sure to grant the Manage Emojis permission
Step 5: Import Your First Emote
Now for the fun part:
- Go to the Import page in your dashboard
- Select your server from the dropdown
- Search for emotes using the search bar
- Browse emotes from 7TV, BTTV, or FFZ
- Click on an emote to import it
- Watch it appear in your server!
Congratulations! You've imported your first emote with Kao.
