Overview
Kao doesn't just import emotes - it helps you manage your entire server emoji collection. View, rename, and delete emojis all from one dashboard.
Viewing Server Emojis
Emoji Grid
- Go to Servers in your dashboard
- Select a server
- View all emojis in a grid layout
Each emoji card shows:
- Emoji preview
- Emoji name
- Type (static/animated)
- Management options

Naming Rules
Discord has specific rules for emoji names:
- Minimum 2 characters
- Maximum 32 characters
- Only letters, numbers, and underscores
- No spaces or special characters
- Case insensitive (
:Hello:=:hello:)
Renaming an emoji doesn't affect existing messages - they'll still show the emoji.
Deleting Emojis
Single Delete
- Click on an emoji card
- Click the Delete button
- Confirm the deletion
Deleting an emoji is permanent and cannot be undone. Existing messages will show a broken emoji.
Bulk Delete
For removing multiple emojis at once:
- Enter selection mode
- Click emojis to select them
- Click Delete Selected
- Confirm the bulk deletion
Bulk delete is a powerful action. Double-check your selection before confirming.
Emoji Organization
Naming Conventions
Keep your emojis organized with consistent naming:
| Convention | Example |
|---|---|
| Prefix by source | 7tv_pepelaugh, bttv_sadge |
| Prefix by category | emote_happy, react_thumbsup |
| Prefix by size | wide_pepe, smol_cat |
Slot Management
Track your emoji usage:
- Dashboard shows current usage vs limit
- Static and animated tracked separately
- Plan imports around available slots
Working with Animated Emojis
Special Considerations
Animated emojis:
- Have their own slot limit
- Require Nitro to use in other servers
- Generally larger file size
- May be rate limited differently
Converting Animated to Static
If you're running low on animated slots:
- Find the static version of the emote on 7TV/BTTV/FFZ
- Delete the animated version
- Import the static version
Role-Restricted Emojis
Discord allows restricting emoji usage by role. Through Kao:
- Click on an emoji
- Click Edit
- Configure role restrictions
- Save changes
Role restrictions are a Discord feature for servers with specific needs. Most servers don't need this.
Best Practices
Regular Cleanup
- Review emojis monthly
- Remove emotes nobody uses
- Make room for fresh content
Quality Over Quantity
- Don't fill every slot just because you can
- Keep frequently-used emotes
- Remove duplicates
Backup Strategy
- Note which emotes are from which platform
- You can always re-import from the source
- Consider documenting custom/unique emotes
