Bot Issues
Bot token is invalid
Symptoms:
- Error message: "Invalid bot token"
- Cannot connect bot to Kao
Solutions:
- Go to Discord Developer Portal
- Select your application
- Go to Bot section
- Click Reset Token to generate a new token
- Copy the new token and paste it into Kao
When you reset your token, the old token immediately stops working. Update it in Kao right away.
Bot not responding to commands
Symptoms:
- Bot appears online but ignores commands
- No errors shown
Solutions:
- Verify the command prefix is correct
- Check bot has permission to read messages in the channel
- Try the command in a different channel
- Check if the bot is actually online in Discord
Bot goes offline frequently
Symptoms:
- Bot disconnects and reconnects
- Status fluctuates between online/offline
Solutions:
- Check if Discord is having issues (status.discord.com)
- If self-hosting, verify your server's network stability
- Contact support if the issue persists
Import Issues
"Server at emoji capacity"
Symptoms:
- Cannot import new emotes
- Error shows capacity reached
Solutions:
- Delete unused emotes from your server
- Check if you're importing to the correct server
- Boost the server for more emoji slots

"Bot lacks permission"
Symptoms:
- Import fails with permission error
- Cannot manage emojis
Solutions:
- Go to your Discord server settings
- Navigate to Roles
- Find your bot's role
- Enable Manage Emojis and Stickers permission
- Or re-invite the bot with correct permissions
"Emote not found"
Symptoms:
- Search finds emote but import fails
- Error says emote doesn't exist
Solutions:
- The emote may have been deleted from the source
- Try searching for a similar emote
- The source platform may be temporarily down
Import is very slow
Symptoms:
- Imports take more than 10 seconds
- Progress seems stuck
Solutions:
- Check your internet connection
- The source platform may be slow
- Try importing fewer emotes at once
- Wait and retry later
Search Issues
No search results
Symptoms:
- Searching returns zero emotes
- Known emotes don't appear
Solutions:
- Check your spelling
- Try a shorter search term
- Try different platforms (7TV, BTTV, FFZ)
- Some emotes are unlisted or private
Search is slow
Symptoms:
- Results take a long time to load
- Search appears frozen
Solutions:
- The emote platforms may be experiencing high load
- Try a more specific search term
- Refresh the page and try again
Authentication Issues
Can't sign in with Discord
Symptoms:
- OAuth flow fails
- Redirected back without signing in
Solutions:
- Clear your browser cookies for usekao.com
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
- Try a different browser
- Check if Discord is having issues
Session expired unexpectedly
Symptoms:
- Logged out without clicking sign out
- "Session expired" message
Solutions:
- Sessions expire after 30 days of inactivity
- Simply sign in again
- If happening frequently, clear cookies and sign in fresh
"Unauthorized" errors
Symptoms:
- API calls fail with 401 error
- Dashboard features don't work
Solutions:
- Sign out and sign in again
- Clear browser cookies
- Check if you're using an outdated bookmark
Server Issues
Can't see my servers
Symptoms:
- Server dropdown is empty
- Servers not appearing in list
Solutions:
- Make sure you have Manage Server or Administrator permission
- Sign out and sign in again to refresh server list
- The bot needs to be in the server to manage it
Wrong server selected
Symptoms:
- Emotes going to wrong server
- Managing wrong server's emojis
Solutions:
- Double-check the server selector dropdown
- Servers with similar names can be confusing
- Verify server icon matches expected server
Dashboard Issues
Page won't load
Symptoms:
- White screen or loading forever
- Error message displayed
Solutions:
- Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R)
- Clear browser cache
- Try incognito/private mode
- Check your internet connection
Features not working
Symptoms:
- Buttons don't respond
- Actions don't complete
Solutions:
- Check browser console for errors (F12)
- Disable ad blockers temporarily
- Try a different browser
- Clear local storage and cookies
